Bir kitabı elinize aldınız. İlk sayfayı açtınız.

On saniye içinde bir karar verdiniz: Bu kitap beni tutacak mı, tutmayacak mı?

Bilişsel bilim bunu söylüyor. On saniye.

Gerilim yok. Kitabı bırakır.

Çok yüksek entropi — "Zaman matrisinin yedinci katmanında kuantum frekansları çakıştığında" — okuyucu nerede olduğunu bilemiyor. Kayboldu. Kitabı bırakır.

Doğru entropi seviyesi: "Dün gece, saat üçte, telefon çaldı."

Bu cümle şunları yapıyor: — Zaman verdi: "dün gece" → zaman çapası — Spesifik oldu: "saat üçte" → belirsizlik kısıtlandı — Gerilim yarattı: Gece üçte telefon. Neden? Kim? — Açıklama yapmadı: Neden çaldığını söylemedi

Anlatı Entropisi orta seviyede. Nedensel Dallanma açık. Okuyucu devam eder.

**Beş Romanın İlk Cümlesi — Entropi Analizi**

**1\. Anna Karenina — Tolstoy** *"Mutlu aileler birbirine benzer; mutsuz her aile kendi tarzında mutsuzdur."*

Entropi düşük — cümle bir gerçeği bildiriyor. Ama paradoks içeriyor: "kendi tarzında" ifadesi sonsuz dallanma açıyor. Okuyucu merak ediyor: "Bu ailenin tarzı ne?"

If = 1.5, Cb = 3.0, Sₙ = 4.5

If = 3.5, Cb = 4.0, Sₙ = 14.0

**3\. Dönüşüm — Kafka** *"Gregor Samsa bir sabah sıkıntılı rüyalardan uyandığında, kendini yatağında dev bir böceğe dönüşmüş halde buldu."*

Entropi maksimum — beklentinin tamamen kırılması. Ama paradoks: Yüksek Sₙ'ye rağmen okuyucu bırakmıyor çünkü Vakum Değişkeni hemen kuruldu: Neden böcek? Bu nasıl mümkün?

If = 4.5, Cb = 4.5, Sₙ = 20.25

**4\. Suç ve Ceza — Dostoyevski** *"Temmuz başının o bunaltıcı akşamlarından birinde, kiracının odasından çıkıp merdivene yürüdü."*

Entropi orta — fiziksel parametreler kuruldu (sıcaklık, mekan, hareket). Ama nedensel zincir belirsiz: Nereye gidiyor? Neden?

If = 2.5, Cb = 2.5, Sₙ = 6.25

**5\. Sıradan Bir Gün — Ortalama Roman** *"Ali sabah kalktı, kahvaltısını yaptı ve işe gitti."*

Entropi sıfıra yakın. Bilgi yok. Gerilim yok. Nedensel dallanma yok. Okuyucu on saniyede bırakır.

If = 0.5, Cb = 0.5, Sₙ = 0.25

---

Devam edin.

Cevap hayırsa — cümleyi yeniden yazın. Bir bilgi boşluğu açın. Bir soru bırakın. Bir şeyi yarım bırakın.

On saniye. Hepsi bu kadar.

**English:**

---

You pick up a book. You open the first page.

Within ten seconds you make a decision: will this book hold me, or not?

Cognitive science says so. Ten seconds. Sometimes less.

And what happens in those ten seconds can be calculated with a formula.

---

**The Physical Job of the First Sentence**

The first sentence has to do one thing: set Narrative Entropy at the right level.

Too low entropy — "Once upon a time" — the reader already knows what's coming. No surprise. No tension. They put the book down.

Too high entropy — "When quantum frequencies converged in the seventh layer of the time matrix" — the reader doesn't know where they are. Lost. They put the book down.

The right entropy level: "Last night, at three a.m., the phone rang."

This sentence does the following: — Gives time: "last night" → temporal anchor — Gets specific: "at three a.m." → ambiguity constrained — Creates tension: Phone at three in the morning. Why? Who? — Doesn't explain: Doesn't say why it rang

Narrative Entropy at medium level. Causal Branching open. The reader continues.

---

**Five Novels' First Sentences — Entropy Analysis**

**1\. Anna Karenina — Tolstoy** *"Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."*

Low entropy — the sentence states a truth. But contains a paradox: "in its own way" opens infinite branching. The reader wonders: "What is this family's way?"

If = 1.5, Cb = 3.0, Sₙ = 4.5

**2\. The Stranger — Camus** *"Mother died today. Or maybe yesterday, I don't know."*

High entropy — "I don't know" created ambiguity. But the causal chain is clear: Mother died. This sentence produces both high Cb and high If.

If = 3.5, Cb = 4.0, Sₙ = 14.0

**3\. The Metamorphosis — Kafka** *"As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect."*

Maximum entropy — complete shattering of expectation. But paradox: despite high Sₙ, the reader doesn't quit because the Vacuum Variable was immediately established: Why an insect? How is this possible?

If = 4.5, Cb = 4.5, Sₙ = 20.25

**4\. Crime and Punishment — Dostoevsky** *"On an exceptionally hot evening early in July, a young man came out of the garret in which he lodged in S. Place and walked slowly, as though in hesitation, towards K. bridge."*

Medium entropy — physical parameters established (heat, space, movement). But causal chain ambiguous: Where is he going? Why?

If = 2.5, Cb = 2.5, Sₙ = 6.25

**5\. An Ordinary Day — Average Novel** *"Ali woke up in the morning, had breakfast, and went to work."*

Entropy near zero. No information. No tension. No causal branching. The reader quits within ten seconds.

If = 0.5, Cb = 0.5, Sₙ = 0.25

---

**How Many Seconds Until Lost?**

If Sₙ is below 1.0, the reader quits on average within 8-12 seconds.

If Sₙ is between 1.0-5.0, the reader continues to the first page — then decides.

If Sₙ is above 5.0 and a Vacuum Variable is present, the reader finishes the first chapter.

---

**The Practical Conclusion**

After writing your first sentence, ask yourself:

*"Will someone reading this sentence say 'So what happened next?'"*

If yes Cb is high. Continue.

If no — rewrite the sentence. Open an information gap. Leave a question. Leave something unfinished.

Ten seconds. That's all there is to it.
